On this special day, it is my wish that everyone will pause to honor the brave men and women who have come before us and paved our path of freedom. And, that mothers and fathers will take time to explain to their children the importance of this day.
Let us not forget that we are blessed to live in a country that guarantees us rights and freedoms that people in other countries can not even imagine, and that these freedoms have come because of the sacrifices that fellow countrymen were willing to take for generations unknown to them.
Let us take our patriotism seriously, and vow to respect it, and cherish it, as we recall these words from John F. Kennedy years ago:
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
